Submission Selection Process
All published works are juror-selected to ensure artistic excellence. TMC maintains 4 editorial boards, one for each submission genre (ie. Literature, Art, Music, and Video). Editorial board members, or jurors, are college interns that specialize in the particular genre they review.
Since TMC focuses solely on Massachusetts students, our editorial boards have the time to provide educational feedback to all accepted authors and artists, familiarizing students with the editorial process within the realm of professional publishing. With TMC all Massachusetts students, grades 8-12, have a professional outlet to display their work, coupled with editorial guidance to hone their talents.
By submitting to The Marble Collection: High School Magazine of the Arts, the student agrees to participate in the mandatory Student Mentoring Workshop if his/her work is chosen for publication.
Submission Guidelines
Literature Guidelines
TMC publishes the finest student literary works in fiction, non-fiction (creative or academic), and poetry. Material length, style, and subject matter are entirely up to the author. We do not impose word limits; however, the quality of the piece must justify the space it takes up in the magazine. Notify us if your work is chosen for publication elsewhere as we do not print previously published work(s).
- There is a limit of 4 literature submissions per student per year.
- The only formats we accept are DOCX, DOC, DOTX, DOT, RTF, and TXT.
- Do not send duplicate submissions; take care that the work you submit is the final draft.
- Do not send submissions via email; submit online only
Art Guidelines
To upload artwork or photographs, scan items as a grayscale, line art, or color file of at least 200 dpi and smaller than 10mb when saved. Save all items as a PICT, JPEG, or PNG.
- There is a limit of 4 art submissions per student per year.
- Do not scan as a halftone.
- Do not send artwork that contains copyrighted material.
Music Guidelines
The only formats we accept are MP3, AAC, WAV, and FLAC. If encoding in MP3 or AAC, please ensure that your bitrate is less than 256 kbps. Files must be less than 20mb.
- There is a limit of 4 music submissions per student per year..
- Do not send music that contains copyrighted material.
Video Guidelines
The only formats we accept are MOV, AVI, MPEG and WMV.
NOTE: If video submission exceeds 100MB, please email themarblecollection@gmail.com for further submission instructions.
- There is a limit of 4 video submissions per student per year. Submissions received between September 1st and January 1st will be considered for the winter edition; submissions received thereafter will be considered for the spring edition.
- Do not send a video that contains copyrighted work, such as music videos or movie clips.
- Maximum file size: 95 MBs
- Maximum length: 10 minutes
- Preferred aspect ratio: 16:9
